Western Carolina University Trumpet Festival

Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference

Started as the Atlanta Youth Trumpet Ensemble in February 2004. Inspired by the visit of the youth trumpet ensemble to the Western Carolina University trumpet festival. Became the Atlanta Trumpet Ensemble in July 2004.

Consists of collegiate and high school trumpeters from around the metro-Atlanta area. The trumpet ensemble rehearses weekly for two hours and we cover music from all types of music including baroque, latin/jazz, romantic and classical. The ensemble has performed in venues all over Atlanta, Savannah and North Carolina. ATE performs at private and non-profit events.

November 6th, 2004 marked our first annual Atlanta Trumpet Festival at Emory University. Over 100 participants from Georgia, Florida and Alabama attended a full day trumpet clinic at Emory University. Christopher Martin (principal trumpet Atlanta Symphony and newly appointed principal of the Chicago Symphony), Kevin Lyons (Georgia State University) and Mike Barry (Atlanta freelancer) presented astonishing master classes covering warm-up routines, orchestra trumpet performance and recording sessions. Freddy Martin, David Fairchild and Chuck Jackson conducted trumpet ensemble rehearsals.
